Crash Involving Stolen Van Snarls Port St. Lucie Boulevard Traffic

PORT ST. LUCIE — A man accused of stealing a van from his job site was arrested after a crash involving five vehicles that shut down part of Port St. Lucie Boulevard for almost an hour, according to police.

A man, 50, of Port St. Lucie, was arrested on charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle and DUI after the incident, Port St. Lucie police stated.

According to police, he was working in the 300 block of Southeast Crosspoint Drive “when he decided to steal a work van.”

“After leaving the area, the driver caused an accident involving five vehicles,” police stated. “This shut down east lanes of traffic on Port St. Lucie Boulevard for nearly an hour.”

Sgt. Keith Boham, police spokesperson, said the crash happened just west of Floresta Drive on Port St. Lucie Boulevard.

Police said he indicated he took Suboxone, which is used in treating opioid addiction, earlier in the day.

There were no serious injuries.

Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash.  “Whenever you are behind the wheel of a car, please make sure you are paying attention to all road signs and signals.  If you are in an accident where someone didn’t follow the posted signs or signals, please call me so that we can discuss your rights.”
