DOT Worker Killed By Car On Parkway In St. Lucie County

A city Department of Transportation employee was killed when a driver hit him while he was working in the St. Lucie County according to police and witnesses.


The 57-year old man was exiting a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road in St. Lucie County when a driver lost control of his car and slammed into him, DOT officials said. The DOT employee was pronounced dead at Delray Medical Center, police said.

“This is such a sudden and horrible tragedy,” an FHP officer said at a press conference on the Upper West Side of St. Lucie County.

The victim was a hard-working man who had been with the DOT for a several years, according to an FHP officer.

The Department Of Transportation said that they were very shocked and saddened by the death. “Our thoughts and prayers are of course with the victim’s wife, their children, and his entire family”.

Just before the crash, a driver had sped across two lanes of traffic, moving from the left-most lane to the right lane, according to a witness.

“He came up from the left lane and cut in front of me really fast,” she said. The victim was on the shoulder of the road when the vehicle hit him, according to DOT. The 62-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with head and neck pain, police said.

He has not been charged as investigations are still ongoing.
