Driver chraged after deadly DUI crash in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A 58-year-old man has been charged in connection to a deadly crash in February 2021, NBC Miami reports.  

The suspect was driving a 2018 McLaren west on Northeast 13th Street when he lost control around 1 a.m. on February 6, 2021. The car then struck a wall, careened over the median, and crashed into a group of trees. At the time, he was travelling 62 MPH in a 35 MPH zone.

The McLaren then exploded across the road. The driver, who failed a blood alcohol test, sustained 37 ribs fractures and other injuries in the crash. His passenger was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center.

This week, the driver has been charged with vehicular homicide, DUI causing a death, and reckless driving. He has a previous record of DUI.
