Driver Sustains Severe Injuries After Wrong-Way Crash
The driver of a Volkswagen Golf Hatchback was involved in a wrong-way crash on 45th Street in West Palm Beach.
Emergency first responders were called to the scene of an alleged wrong-way crash involving a Volkswagen Sedan and a Dodge Truck on eastbound 45th Street. Officers of the Florida Highway Patrol were at the scene of the accident carrying out investigations.
According to police reports, the driver of the Volkswagen Golf was traveling in the wrong direction on eastbound 45th Street when it collided head on with a Dodge truck that was approaching in the eastbound lane. The impact sent the Golf into the path of a silver Audi Sedan which rammed into the Golf before coming to rest.
The driver of the Golf was trapped in the wreckage for a while before firemen arrived on the scene to free the driver from the mangled frame of the car. He sustained multiple fractures from the crash and was rushed to the nearest hospital in an ambulance.
The driver of the Dodge truck suffered a neck injury in the crash. He was also taken to the hospital for treatment. No one else was hurt in the crash.
Officers of the Florida Highway Patrol could not disclose the reason for the wrong-way violation, although it was mentioned that alcohol might be a factor in the crash.
More information will be provided as investigations progress.
