A 33-year old Broward County woman was driving 55 mph when her boyfriend grabbed the wheel and they crashed into a 2015 Honda Odyssey, investigators and the Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
Broward County Sheriff’s deputies believe a 32-year-old man of Delray Beach was intoxicated and arguing with his girlfriend as she drove down the street at about 55 mph.
“He was intoxicated and mad because she wouldn’t let him drive,” a spokesman of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
The 32-year-old grabbed the steering wheel and tried to take over as she headed east in the Cooper City.
The vehicle then went off the road and struck a 2015 Honda Odyssey driven by a 27-year old Weston man.
The 32-year old suffered minor head injuries, but his girlfriend wasn’t so fortunate. She was confirmed dead after being taken to Broward County General Hospital.
Florida Highway Patrol said, the 27-year old driver of the Odyssey was taken to Davie Medical Center with injuries described as not life-threatening.
The 32-year0old who had triggered the accident was arrested and is currently in a prison in the Broward County Jail, where he was booked on charges of felonious assault, domestic violence, manslaughter and criminal damaging and endangering, Broward County Jail records show.
He was not charged with drunk driving because he wasn’t the actual driver of the vehicle, deputies said.
He remained in the jail, held in lieu of $60,000 bond pending an Alliance Municipal Court hearing.
