Family Of Four Confirmed Dead After St. Lucie County Crash
A family of four were killed after plunging into a flooded river in Martin County. That accident happened not far from the spot where the Martin County family of eight went over a cliff.
The body of a 38-year old was found in an area previously covered by flood waters, miles from where witnesses reported seeing the family’s maroon Honda Pilot fall into a river near Stuart, reports the FHP.
Searchers smelled gasoline a half-mile north of the reported crash site and found the vehicle submerged, with the bodies of a 41-year-old and a 9-year-old girl inside, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office announced. The body of a 12-year-old son, was found submerged in the river, six miles north of the crash site, reports the FHP
The family had been traveling from Delray Beach to their home in St. Lucie County.
Authorities now believe the family’s vehicle pulled into a turnoff on Highway 101, about 200 miles northwest of Stuart, before crashing into an oncoming vehicle and then plunging into the river.
Florida Highway Patrol suggests the crash was an accident. The driver may have tried to pull over in a rainstorm but was hit by an oncoming speeding vehicle, authorities say.
