Five Dead, Two Others Critical In Riviera Beach Crash
Four Palm Beach County teenagers were killed in a Riviera Beach crash before Palm City High School’s commencement.
There will be a moment of silence during the graduation ceremony, a Superintendent said on his way into the University for the ceremony.
The car crash occurred on Port Salerno, east of Indiantown. A 17-year-old was speeding west on Port Salerno in a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier, troopers said. As the car crossed over a railroad crossing it flew into the air.
When the car landed, the 17-year-old lost control, went off the right side of the road and overcorrected, veering left. The car went off the left side of the road, struck a Toyota Sequoia then overturned. It landed on its roof on the road.
The 17-year-old driver was killed. His front passenger, a 16-year-old, a 14-year-old back-seat passenger and a 15-year-old were also killed.
The driver of the Toyota Sequoia was also pronounced dead after being taken to the Martin County General Hospital.
A back-seat passenger in the Toyota Sequoia, a 13-year-old was thrown out of the car and landed in a ditch on the right side of the road. He was flown to Delray Medical Center in Palm Beach where he is in critical condition.
The third passenger in the back-,an 11-year old, was taken to Port Salerno General Hospital, troopers said. Her condition is not available.
Troopers said speed was factor in the crash.
