Greenacres-Area Woman Charged In Fatal Crash Near Jupiter
JUPITER — A Greenacres-area woman had a mix of alcohol, pain medication and sedatives in her blood on the night she crashed a car, resulting in the death of a passenger, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report made public recently.
The woman, 24, was arrested on charges related to a crash near Beeline Highway and Innovation Drive west of Jupiter. She remained in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
She faces charges of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and driving without a license while causing a death.
Separate results showed that she had ethanol levels of 0.83 and 0.45, the report said. Ethanol indicates the presence of alcohol in a person’s blood.
Authorities say she was driving south on the Beeline shortly before 11 that night when she approached a curve in the road near Innovation Drive. As the pavement curved left, the Malibu went off the road and onto the grassy shoulder. It continued south, striking a metal street sign.
The vehicle then began to rotate clockwise, continuing south until it crashed head-on with a concrete pole, a PBSO crash report said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.
Further investigation revealed she was driving with a revoked license, PBSO’s report said.
Court records indicate that the Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office is representing her. It does not comment on open cases.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash. “Whenever you are behind the wheel of a car, please make sure you are paying attention to all road signs and signals. If you are in an accident where someone didn’t follow the posted signs or signals, please call me so that we can discuss your rights.”
