Intoxicated Off-Duty St. Lucie County Detective Charged In Crash That Critically Injured Three People
An intoxicated off-duty detective was involved in a car accident in St. Lucie County that left one person critically injured, police sources and the Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
The 32-year-old driver who works in the 48th Precinct in the St. Lucie County, was preparing to enter the southbound lanes of the Fort Pierce Expressway when he rear-ended another car on the entrance ramp near St. Lucie Village.
The impact badly injured a 22-year-old woman in the other car, police said. She is in critical condition at a hospital in St. Lucie County.
Two other occupants, a 21-year-old woman and 20-year-old man, were rushed to the same hospital with minor injuries.
The 32-year-old driver had suffered some minor head and neck injuries and was taken to the same hospital before being charged with DWI, Florida Highway Patrol said.
He was later charged with several counts of vehicular assault, assault and refusal to take a breath test.
The Florida Highway Patrol made it known that the crash is still under investigation, and anyone with relevant information concerning the crash is ask to contact the St. Lucie County Police Department.
