Lake Park teenager killed after driving into pond

LAKE PARK, FL – A 19-year-old man was killed in Lake Park on Wednesday after crashing into a pond in Martin County, WPTV reports.

The accident occurred along I-95 near mile marker 112 at 5 p.m. The victim lost control of his vehicle as it travelled southbound, left the highway, and became submerged in a retention pond.

A 25-year-old passenger was able to free themself and swim to safety but the driver remained trapped. Rescue crews were initially unable to locate the vehicle due to the depth of the water.

The vehicle and driver were later found. At this time it is unclear what caused the driver to lose control of his car.
