Man Charged For Crash That Killed His 8-Year-Old Son

Life-saving measures may have been delayed on a boy involved in a St. Lucie County car crash because first responders didn’t know he was injured, but it was the boy’s father who was charged in the death.

Palm Beach C Fire Rescue

The 8-year-old boy was riding in a car with his parents when the vehicle swerved, crossed the oncoming lane and struck another vehicle

The boy was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to his father’s fiancée.

The boy’s father had told police authorities he had a few drinks sometime before the crash. He then allegedly fell asleep at the wheel while driving home and crashed.

Responding deputies from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department were initially told by fire crews that the driver’s 8-year-old boy was sleeping in the back seat after the wreck, according to dispatch calls.

As a result, the boy’s well-being doesn’t appear to have been a concern. When deputies arrived, it was the driver who appeared to be injured.

No one in the other vehicle was seriously injured, according to police officials.

FHP said, investigations are still ongoing and anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the FHP at once.
