Man Lighting Fireworks On Lake Worth Beach Street Fatally Struck By Minivan

LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. — A Lake Worth Beach man lighting fireworks in the road was hit and killed by a minivan on New Year’s Day, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman, Teri Barbera. said a 2003 Honda Odyssey was traveling southbound on North C Street just after midnight.

The front of the vehicle hit a pedestrian, identified as a 29-year-old man of Lake Worth Beach, who investigators said was lighting fireworks on the road. He was dragged by the minivan to the intersection of Lake Avenue.

The driver of Honda Odyssey fled the scene, deputies say.

Investigators said witnesses pursued the vehicle, which fled the scene, and identified the driver.

He was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and died Friday just after 5 a.m.

The sheriff’s office report says charges are pending in the crash.

Comments:

Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash.  “A Hit-and-run is one of the worst type of accidents.  When that person that fled the scene is caught you have rights that are different then in a regular car crash.  Make sure you speak to a licensed professional about your rights”.
