Ruby, 44, and a friend were traveling from Indian River County to Port Salerno on Martin County Highway 17 when a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction hit their vehicle. A 59- year-old man who was driving, was also seriously injured.

The driver of the other vehicle, who was not publicly identified, died at the scene, according to the local sheriff.

President Donald Trump had also tweeted his support for Ruby saying his “thoughts and prayers are with Representative Jacob Ruby of Martin County including all of those involved in last nights car accident, and their families.”

Ruby suffered a back fracture and several broken ribs. He underwent surgery to remove portions of his small intestine and colon, his spokesman said. He added that he will need additional surgeries to repair the partial collapse of the primary artery in her legs.

The Martin County Sheriff Office is urging anyone with vital information on the crash to contact the department or the Florida Highway Patrol.

Accident attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to this unfortunate crash. “This is a serious accident resulting in a fatality.
