Martin County Woman’s Leg Severed In I-95 Crash
A 36-year-old woman of Martin County remained at the Delray Medical Hospital in Palm Beach County just days after the wreck in Martin County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol Sergeant.
36-year-old Atria Marshall stopped on I-75 to check on a relative that had been involved in an accident. The relative involved in the wreck was driving a Kia sedan. The trooper said Marshall got out of her car to check on the relative. A 1998 Honda Civic, driven by a 26-year old man of Martin County, was traveling south on I-75 at the time, according to a news release from the FHP.
The 26-year old had swerved to avoid the car, but instead sideswiped it and hit the woman in the process. The car rotated counter-clockwise before stopping. Authorities said Marshall landed behind the Kia after she was struck, suffering a severed leg. The FHP and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office provided tourniquets to help stabilize Marshall’s leg, according to the release.
Officials said downpours in the area prevented the 26-year old from seeing the Kia initially. “He did not see Marshall until the last second,” FHP said.
The 26-year old remained on the scene. FHP said charges in the crash are still pending.
