One Dead and One Injured In Two Vehicle Collision On U.S. Highway 1

One person is dead and another sustained critical injuries in a two vehicle collision along U.S. Highway 1 in Fort Pierce.

The northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 1 were shutdown for over an hour after an accident in Fort Pierce. According to Police reports, the crash that involved a truck and a white Honda Accord left one person dead and a driver hospitalized with serious injuries.

The accident happened when 18-year-old Cheyenne Hayes was driving a truck southbound on U.S. Highway 1. Hayes was said to have lost control of the vehicle and drifted into the northbound lanes where she collided with a white Honda Accord which was approaching on a northbound lane.

The two vehicles were involved in a head on collision that left the occupants of both vehicles with critical injuries. Hayes was rushed to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center but all efforts to stabilize her proved futile as she pronounced dead a few hours later.

The driver of the white Honda Accord was also transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. He is in a stable condition at the moment.

The road was later reopened and traffic restored after the wreckage was cleared. Police is still conducting an investigation to determine the cause to the crash.
