Palm Beach County Cop And 11-Year-Old Critical After Car Crash
An off-duty Palm Beach County cop was injured while driving the wrong way on the Palm Beach County Thruway, slamming head-on into another car and injuring the driver, police said.
A 29-year-old officer was driving his Dodge Dakota pickup truck southbound in the northbound lane of the highway when he collided with a Honda CRV driven by a 37-year -old near Exit 15 in Pembroke’s Pines, police officials said.
The officer was driving alone at the time of the crash and was critically injured at the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Honda CRV was with an 11-year-old passenger. They were both taken to a nearby hospital.
Police are still trying to determine why the cop was driving the wrong way.
Officers were dispatched to the scene after a witness saw the cop’s blue pickup barreling the wrong way and called the police, cops said.
By the time they arrived on the scene, debris from the two vehicles was scattered all over I -87 and both drivers were dead.
It was a horrific scene, a FHP sergeant said.
No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
