Passenger Killed When Out-Of-Control Driver Crashes Into Fire Hydrant

An out-of-control driver jumped the curb and slammed into a fire hydrant in Broward County, killing his passenger and gravely injuring himself, police said.

The 33-year old driver of the 2004 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on Sixth Avenue near West 54th Street when the car jumped the curb and plowed into the hydrant, cops said.

Emergency responders found the driver and his passenger, a 33-year-old, inside the mangled vehicle with severe body trauma, police said.

The driver was rushed to Delray Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

Paramedics rushed his passenger to a hospital in Broward County, but doctors were not able to save him.

Police arrested the driver is on charges of vehicular manslaughter for the collision.

Sources said that speeding was a factor in the deadly crash, which totaled the vehicle.

“Seeing that car the way it was, there was no way that it was doing the speed limit,” a source said.

Fire officials said two other people were hospitalized in stable condition as a result of the crash.

The crash shut down a stretch of Sixth Avenue between West 54th and West 55th Street while the FHP Investigation Squad conducted an investigation.
