PBSO Deputy Suspended After Probe Discovered He Was Involved In Car Crash

A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy was suspended without pay for three weeks after a video showed he lied about a Halloween crash in West Palm Beach, according to an Internal Affairs report.

The deputy received a 120-hour, or 15-day, suspension after an investigation, records show.

His attorney at the Police Benevolent Association did not return a call to The Palm Beach Post.

According to the report, an attorney wrote to PBSO seeking a settlement over a crash that involved the deputy in his marked patrol car. It occurred at a shopping center on Military Trail north of Belvedere Road. Neither driver was hurt.

The attorney said a PBSO investigation had wrongly declared his client, the driver from Boynton Beach, was at fault. He provided PBSO with a security-camera video that showed the sheriff deputy backing into the woman’s car, which was stopped at the time of impact.

The sergeant who investigated the incident later told Internal Affairs investigators that when he had arrived, the PBSO deputy had told him the woman had rear-ended him while he was stopped.

The sergeant said a maintenance worker who claimed to have seen the incident concurred with the deputy. But in a later interview with Internal Affairs investigators, the maintenance worker said he only heard the crash and then looked over.

The incident is still under investigation.

Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to distracted driving.  “In my many years as a Personal Injury Lawyer I’ve helped many victims that were injured because someone was distracted and crashed into their vehicles.  If you’ve been injured by someone because they weren’t paying attention to the road, please call me so I can help you get compensation for your damages.”
