PBSO: Driver Drunk In West Palm Beach Hit-And-Run Crash That Killed A Woman On Summit Boulevard

WEST PALM BEACH – A 30-year-old West Palm Beach woman drove drunk through suburban West Palm Beach and caused at least three crashes, one of which killed a woman walking on Summit Boulevard, authorities alleged.

She faces multiple charges including vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter in a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman, 33, also of West Palm Beach.

Authorities arrested the woman on multiple charges stemming from the fatal hit-and-run.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrest report said a blood draw hours after the crash showed that her blood-alcohol content at 0.175, more than double the 0.08 threshold for impairment. Tests also showed levels of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, as well as opioids.

“The alcohol level alone would have impaired the decision-making abilities” of the woman, but the “addition of the controlled substances” added to her impairment, the report said

In court at the Palm Beach County Jail, bail for the woman was set at $172,000. Her attorney said he’ll enter a plea of not guilty.

“She is sorry for the loss of the pedestrian,” her attorney said.

Attempts to reach relatives or friends of the victim were unsuccessful. The PBSO crash report said she lived on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard near Tamarind Avenue.

Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash.  “A Hit-and-run is one of the worst type of accidents.  When that person that fled the scene is caught you have rights that are different then in a regular car crash.  Make sure you speak to a licensed professional about your rights”.
