Deputy James Watt was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Okeechobee Boulevard and State Road 7 when a 2016 Dodge Ram slammed into the back of his 2017 Ford Explorer, pushing the SUV into the 2016 Ford Mustang next to him.

The pickup driver, a 31-year-old man appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the crash, authorities said. The West Palm Beach man and the deputy were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The Mustang driver, a 27-year-old man, also sustained minor injuries in the wreck but was not taken to a hospital.

The deputy and the 27-year-old driver were wearing seat belts, according to a crash report. The 31-year old driver was not.

PBSO is continuing to investigate the wreck. The sheriff’s office said charges are pending.

Anyone with additional information on the crash should contact the Florida Highway Patrol officials or the Palm Beach County police department.
