Police: Boynton Man Jailed For Delray Dui Crash After Drinking In Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, FL – Boynton Beach resident is facing DUI charges after allegedly drinking in Boca Raton and crashing in Delray Beach.

According to the police report, a motor vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of NW 1st Avenue and NW 2nd St. A tan 2007 Hyundai Sonata was traveling north on NW 1st Avenue. A white 2018 Dodge Journey was traveling west on NW 2nd Street. While the Dodge continued west, the Hyundai failed to stop at a posted stop sign and struck the Dodge.

The front end of the Hyundai struck the left side of the Dodge. After the crash occurred the Hyundai did not stop and continued north on NW 1st Avenue. The victim/driver of the Dodge followed the Hyundai attempting to stop the vehicle. The Hyundai turned right (east) onto NW 3rd Street, and then left (north) onto North Swinton Avenue. While on North Swinton Avenue, the Hyundai stopped in traffic and the victim approached the Hyundai on foot.

The victim told the male driver to stop because of the crash. The victim stated the male driver appeared to be “not functioning” and unable to put the Hyundai into the park gear. The victim reached over the driver and put the Hyundai into park and turned off the engine while removing the vehicle key from the ignition. The victim stated there was nobody else in the Hyundai besides the driver.

The victim stated she never lost sight of the Hyundai from the crash scene to the 300 block of N. Swinton Avenue. The male driver was later identified.”

According to the report, he told police he started driving from the Lion Eagle Pub at 240 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton. Police say he acknowledged consuming two beers between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. before driving. The driver, according to the police report, couldn’t explain the damage to his car and refused to perform roadside tasks.

He is now charged with DUI Unlawful Blood Alcohol, DUI Damage To Property or Person Of Another, and Hit and Run, Leaving Scene of Crash Involving Damage to Property, according to jail records. He was booked into the Palm Beach County jail and later released on his own recognizance.
