Teenage Bicycle Rider Killed In Fatal Crash Identified As Cassie Tianna Torres
Cassie Tianna Torres was riding her bicycle just a mile or so from her Pembroke Pines home when she was struck by a car and killed.
The fatal collision between the 15-year-old girl and a Mercedes Benz C230 sedan happened on Taft Street. The teen was riding her bicycle on the sidewalk along Taft Street when she rode north into the intersection at Northwest 125th Avenue.
Police and the Florida Highway Patrol say the bicycle was hit after it crossed into the path of the Mercedes as the sedan traveled west on Taft Street. The 53-year old, of Pembroke Pines, stayed at the crash and has cooperated with investigators, Pembroke Pines Police said.
Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue took Torres to Memorial Regional Hospital where she was confirmed dead. Florida Highway Patrol officials say she was a high school student.
Torres and the 53-year old driver both have addresses in the nearby Pembroke Falls gated community, which is south of Sheridan Street.
The accident is still under investigation.
