Thousands of Beats compact speakers recalled for fire risk
An estimated 222,000 Beats compact speakers in the U.S. are being recalled after complaints were received of overheating, one of which resulted in minor injury, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported on June 3.
Recall documents revealed that the battery of the Beats Pill XL speakers may overheat and eventually may cause fire. California-based Apple Inc. was notified of eight overheating incidents, and one resulted in a burnt finger and property damage. The recalled speakers, which are shaped like a pill capsule, were imported by Apple and Beats Electronics LLC from China, where they were produced. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advised consumers to refrain from using the speakers and to call Apple Inc. for a refund.
