Three Severely Hurt After Teen Triggered A Three-Vehicle Crash In Indian River County

A teen driver speeding on an Indian River County highway was severely injured when he sparked a horrific three-car crash, Florida Highway Patrol said.

An 18-year-old teen was behind the wheel of his 2002 Honda Accord west on the Indian River County Expressway between Eastbound and the Indian River County Parkway when he came upon stopped traffic and suddenly slammed into a tractor trailer, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 18-year-old teen then lost control of his car spinning into a guard rail before bouncing off and striking a white Toyota RAV4, according to FHP.

The teen, from Port Salerno, was rushed to a hospital in the Indian River County and his 17-year-old male passenger was rushed to Delray Medical Center in a critical condition, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 66-year-old man driving the tractor-trailer and the 29-year-old man at the wheel of the Toyota were also severely injured and remained on scene.

It was not clear whether the 18-year old teen was intoxicated at the time of the accident, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Anyone with additional information relating to the crash is asked to contact the FHP.
