Three Teenagers Hospitalized in Rollover Crash on U.S. Route 27

Police said three teenagers have been hospitalized after their car flipped along U.S. Route 27 in South Bay.

Emergency first responders arrived at the scene of an accident involving a Mazda-3 sedan, along the southbound lane of U.S. Route 27. Officers of the Florida Highway Patrol also arrived on the scene after the deadly crash which sent three teenagers to the hospital with serious injuries.

A Mazda-3 sedan was traveling in the southbound lane of U.S. Route 27 at high speed. The 17-year-old driver of the Mazda sedan lost control of the vehicle and drove into the central reservation before the car went air bound. Subsequently, the vehicle rolled over a couple of times before coming to rest on its top in the northbound lane of the road.

Passers-by rushed to help with the injured victims immediately after the crash occurred. “I could hear them screaming from across the road, I couldn’t imagine the pain they were going through,” said an eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous.

Police said the passers-by acted courageously by placing a car, a few triangle caution signs and a parked car a couple of feet from the downed vehicle in order to prevent any recurrent collisions due to the position of the wrecked vehicle.

Paramedics rushed the three occupants of the car to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said the occupants were well restrained during the crash; thus minimizing the impact of the collision.

The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
