Two dead following car wreck in downtown West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Speeding and attempting to pass another vehicle could have contributed to a deadly crash. 

The collision occurred before midnight on Saturday, Dec. 31 on the 2300 block of South Flagler Drive, WPBF reported. 

A driver tried to pass another vehicle, lost control of the car, and collided with a curb before crashing into a tree. In addition, the vehicle slammed into a concrete barrier before catching fire. 

An unidentified passenger and the driver, James Cook IV, 47, succumbed to fatal injuries. 

At this time, it is unclear if impairment was involved in the crash. 

The area was blocked for several hours.
