Woman Killed In Crash In Vero Beach
VERO BEACH, Fla. — A 69-year-old woman from Vero Beach was killed in a two-vehicle crash that shut down U.S. 1 in both directions, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said.
The fatal crash took place between 65th Street and U.S. 1. Traffic was diverted to Old Dixie Highway while U.S. 1 was shut down.
A sport utility vehicle, driven by a 66-year-old woman from Vero Beach, was leaving a residential complex on U.S. 1 and 65th Street to head south on U.S. 1, according to FHP. Another vehicle was heading north on U.S. 1 in the right lane, approaching 65th Street.
The 66-year-old driver didn’t yield to traffic on U.S. 1 and ended up getting hit by the other vehicle, according to FHP. After the impact, both vehicles ended up in the median blocking traffic in both directions.
The passenger of the 66-year-old driver was taken to Lawnwood Hospital, where she later died, the FHP said. The driver is in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle, a 52-year-old woman from Palm Bay, only had minor injuries.
The crash is still being investigated.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to distracted driving. “In my many years as a Personal Injury Lawyer I’ve helped many victims that were injured because someone was distracted and crashed into their vehicles.
