FORT PIERCE — A woman riding in a car was killed in an early-morning traffic crash in a barrier island neighborhood, according to Fort Pierce police.
The crash happened in the 500 block of Granada Avenue, several blocks south of Seaway Drive, officers said. A 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling south on Granada when the driver lost control and veered off the roadway and into a tree, officers said.
A woman in the front passenger seat was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The driver and a second passenger were being treated for injuries from the crash.
Police did not identify any occupants of the vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation.
