9-year-old, 3 others injured in suspected DUI crash in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – A 9-year-old child and several other people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash which authorities believe may have been caused by intoxicated driving in Port St. Lucie last night.

According to WPTV, the collision happened at the intersection of SE Airoso Boulevard and SE Port St. Lucie Boulevard at about 9 p.m.

The driver of a red Nissan Altima, identified as 37-year-old Jillian Butler, was headed eastbound when she collided with the back of a vehicle, a black Mercedes-Benz R350, that was waiting at a red light.

The impact sent the Mercedes-Benz into the back of a blue Hyundai Elantra, and the Elantra then collided with the Hyundai Kona in front of it.

A 9-year-old child riding in the Altima was airlifted to the hospital for the treatment of severe, critical injuries.

Two people in the Mercedes-Benz were hospitalized with non-life-threatening wounds.

Butler sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital. Later, she was brought into police custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The collision remains under investigation at this time.
